CRS Conducts Inspection, Speed Trial of New Chandkheda – Sabarmati ‘D’ Cabin Rail Link

Ahmedabad: The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) on Thursday conducted the inspection and speed trial of the newly constructed Broad Gauge Y-Connectivity Line between Chandkheda Road and Sabarmati ‘D’ Cabin, marking a significant step towards strengthening Ahmedabad’s rail infrastructure.

The 0.590-km-long connectivity line was inspected by Srinivas, Commissioner of Railway Safety for the Western Circle, who carried out a detailed examination of the section using a motor trolley. A speed trial on the newly laid route was also completed successfully.

Senior railway officials, including Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) Pradeep Gupta, Ahmedabad Divisional Railway Manager Ved Prakash, and officers from the Construction and Open Line departments, were present during the inspection.

Railway officials said the new Y-Connectivity Line is a strategically important project aimed at modernising Ahmedabad’s rail network and reducing dependence on the heavily congested Sabarmati Yard.

With the commissioning of the new route, trains travelling to and from North and Eastern India, particularly trains connected to the Saurashtra region, will be able to use an alternative corridor without entering the busy Sabarmati ‘D’ Cabin section.

Officials said the new line is expected to improve operational efficiency by ensuring smoother and faster train movement, reducing travel time, and easing congestion at Ahmedabad (Kalupur) and Sabarmati railway stations.

The Chandkheda Road bypass is also expected to support the operation of additional trains in the future, further strengthening the Western Railway network.

Railways is also developing Chandkheda Road station as a new terminal to provide improved and modern rail facilities to passengers from North Gujarat and the Saurashtra region.

Officials added that improved rail connectivity is likely to boost commercial activity and real estate development in Chandkheda and nearby areas. The new Y-Connectivity Line is expected to provide Indian Railways with a more efficient alternative operational route while enhancing passenger convenience and overall rail operations. DeshGujarat
