IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Heatwave in Several Gujarat Districts Over Next 7 Days

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in several parts of Gujarat over the next seven days, with maximum temperatures likely to rise by 2°C to 3°C during the next four days and remain above normal in many districts.
According to the IMD’s weather bulletin issued on May 8, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail across parts of North Gujarat, Saurashtra-Kutch and South Gujarat, while temperatures above 40°C are expected at several locations across the state during the coming week.

May 8: Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places in Kutch district.
May 9: Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places in the Saurashtra-Kutch districts of Surendranagar, Rajkot, Dwarka and Kutch.
May 10: Heatwave conditions are very likely to continue at isolated places in the Gujarat region districts of Banaskantha, Patan, Vadodara and Surat, and in the Saurashtra-Kutch districts of Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Kutch and Diu.
May 11: Heatwave conditions are very likely to continue at isolated places in the Gujarat region districts of Banaskantha, Patan, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara and Surat, and in the Saurashtra-Kutch districts of Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Kutch and Diu.
May 12: Heatwave conditions are very likely to continue at isolated places in the Gujarat region districts of Banaskantha, Patan, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and Anand, and in the Saurashtra-Kutch districts of Surendranagar, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Kutch and Diu.
May 13: Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places in the Gujarat region districts of Banaskantha, Patan, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and Anand, and in the Saurashtra districts of Dwarka, along with Kutch.
May 14: Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places in the Gujarat region districts of Banaskantha and Patan, in Dwarka district of Saurashtra, and in Kutch.
Ahmedabad is expected to witness mainly clear skies, with the maximum temperature likely to touch 43°C on May 9.
The IMD has advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to heat, especially during afternoon hours. Citizens have been urged to wear lightweight cotton clothing, cover their heads with hats or umbrellas, stay hydrated, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses, particularly for infants, elderly persons, and those with chronic health conditions.
