Ahmedabad: SHM Group (SHM), a company involved in shipbuilding, ship management, and maritime safety, has been awarded a dock repair and maintenance contract by the Border Security Force (Water Wing) in Bhuj for the mechanized vessel Sindhu.

The mandate involves a comprehensive overhaul of the vessel, including structural, mechanical, electrical, and safety systems. Key activities include hull and FRP repairs, anti-fouling coatings, replacement of critical components, overhaul of Cummins marine engines and propulsion systems, gearbox alignment, rudder repairs, marine-grade electrical rewiring, navigation system calibration, and installation of fire safety and life-saving systems compliant with global SOLAS standards.

The operational requirements and long-term vision behind this mandate triggered the acquisition of a shipyard, laying the foundation for what has since evolved into a fully integrated shipbuilding vertical. Following its successful implementation in Gujarat, the model was replicated across major Indian ports, including Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), Mumbai Port Trust and Mormugao Port Trust.”

The project will be executed under stringent regulatory oversight, including inspections by the BSF Board of Officers and the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), along with mandatory full-power sea trials prior to final delivery, the company said.

In addition to repair and refurbishment, SHM will manage end-to-end execution, including vessel transportation, dockyard operations, fuel management, and deployment of certified engineers and skilled manpower.
