Surat: Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, rooftop solar systems have been installed on 5,88,047 houses across Gujarat. Surat district has emerged as the top performer in the state, with 74,940 houses equipped with rooftop solar installations.
Ahmedabad ranks second with 69,522 rooftop solar installations, while Rajkot stands third with 65,514 houses benefiting from the scheme.
Launched two years ago, the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana aims to promote free and affordable electricity through rooftop solar energy. In 2025 alone, more than 10 lakh houses across the country have been covered under the scheme.
Surat has recorded the highest participation in Gujarat, with thousands of residents benefiting from lower electricity bills after installing rooftop solar systems.
Meanwhile, electricity consumption continues to rise due to increasing heat conditions. Experts believe power demand is likely to increase further in the coming years, making rooftop solar energy an increasingly important alternative for households.
