Yellow Alert for Heat Wave in Gujarat; Ahmedabad, Vadodara Sizzle at 43.4°C

Ahmedabad: A yellow alert for heat wave conditions has been issued across several parts of Gujarat as temperatures continued to soar on Saturday, with Ahmedabad and Vadodara recording 43.4°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

As per the IMD, Rajkot was among the hottest cities in the state at 43.7°C, followed by Ahmedabad and Vadodara at 43.4°C each. The state capital, Gandhinagar, recorded 43.0°C, while Bhuj registered 42°C and Deesa 41.8°C. Surat also witnessed intense heat at 40.9°C.

Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast a further rise of 2-3°C in maximum temperatures over the next three days, with the mercury likely to remain between 41°C and 44°C in several parts of Gujarat during the coming week.

Under the yellow alert, heat wave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places in multiple districts over the next several days. For Saturday, heat wave conditions are expected in Surat district, along with parts of Saurashtra-Kutch including Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Dwarka, and Kutch.

From May 10 onwards, the warning has been extended to districts including Banaskantha, Patan, Vadodara, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Anand, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu.

The weather department has predicted mainly clear skies and dry weather across Gujarat, Saurashtra-Kutch, Diu, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli for the next seven days.

The yellow alert indicates moderate health concerns for vulnerable groups, including infants, elderly citizens, and people suffering from chronic illnesses. The IMD has advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to heat, wear lightweight cotton clothes, stay hydrated, and cover their heads while stepping outdoors. DeshGujarat
