NEET (UG) 2026 Exam of 3rd May Declared Canceled; New Date for Re-Exam to be Announced Later

New Delhi: The National Testing Agency on Tuesday announced the cancellation of the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on May 3 and said the medical entrance test will be held again on fresh dates to be announced later.

The decision was taken after inputs examined by the agency in coordination with central agencies and findings shared by law enforcement authorities regarding alleged irregularities in the examination process.

In an official statement issued in continuation of its May 10 press release, the NTA said it had earlier referred the matter to central agencies on May 8 for independent verification and necessary action to ensure fairness and credibility in the examination system.

The agency stated that based on the findings received subsequently, the present examination process “could not be allowed to stand”. The decision to cancel the examination and conduct it afresh was taken with the approval of the Government of India.

The NTA said revised examination dates and the schedule for re-issued admit cards will be announced through official channels in the coming days.

The Government of India has also decided to hand over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations linked to the examination. The NTA said it would fully cooperate with the investigation and provide all records and materials required by the agency.

The testing agency acknowledged that the re-conduct of the examination would cause inconvenience to students and their families, but stated that the decision was necessary to protect the integrity and trust associated with national-level examinations.

The NTA further clarified that registration data, candidature details and examination centres selected during the May 2026 cycle will remain valid for the re-conducted examination. No fresh registration process will be required and no additional examination fee will be charged.

In addition, the examination fees already paid by candidates will be refunded, while the fresh examination will be conducted using the agency’s internal resources.

Candidates and parents have been advised to rely only on official communications issued by the NTA and avoid unverified information circulating on social media platforms.

The agency has also issued helpline details for candidates, including the email ID neet-ug@nta.ac.in and helpline numbers 011-40759000 and 011-69227700.
