Sabarmati Railway Station Redevelopment Gets Boost With New Two-Storey Holding Area
May 12, 2026
Ahmedabad: The redevelopment of Sabarmati Railway Station has received a major push with the commencement of construction work for a modern two-storey holding area aimed at improving passenger convenience and crowd management.
The foundation ceremony for the project was recently held at the station premises, marking the formal beginning of the construction work.
According to railway officials, the proposed holding area will be developed over nearly 8,000 square metres and will have the capacity to accommodate around 8,000 to 10,000 passengers at a time. The facility is expected to help manage heavy passenger movement, particularly during festivals and travel to religious destinations.
The upcoming infrastructure will include seating arrangements, drinking water facilities, refreshment centres, separate toilets for men, women and differently-abled passengers, modern luggage scanners, escalators, lifts and new foot overbridges.
Officials said the project is part of broader redevelopment efforts to transform Sabarmati station into a modern, safe and passenger-centric railway hub with improved transit infrastructure and crowd handling capacity. DeshGujarat
