Sanghvi Cancels US Visit Following PM Modi’s Appeal for Economic Self-Discipline

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi has cancelled his proposed visit to the United States following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal urging citizens to adopt economic restraint amid the ongoing global economic situation.
Sanghvi was scheduled to attend the second Gujarati Convention organised by the Federation of Gujarati Associations of USA (FOGAUSA) in the last week of this month. However, after the Prime Minister appealed to citizens to avoid foreign travel for a year, the minister decided to cancel the trip.
In a statement, Sanghvi urged people of Gujarat to support all the measures suggested by the Prime Minister for the country’s “economic self-defence”.
During his address, Modi had made seven key appeals to citizens in view of the global crisis and the need to strengthen domestic economic resilience.

- Prioritise work from home wherever possible
- Reduce consumption of edible oil
- Avoid foreign travel for one year
- Reduce use of foreign products and adopt indigenous alternatives
- Reduce consumption of petrol and diesel and increase use of public transport
- Reduce dependence on chemical fertilisers and promote natural farming
- Avoid purchasing gold for one year
