Surat Female Lawyer Accuses Colleague of Posing as Hindu, Sexually Assaulting Her on Promise of Marriage

Surat: A Hindu woman, who is a lawyer by profession, has filed a complaint accusing a fellow advocate of repeatedly sexually assaulting her after allegedly concealing his Muslim identity and posing as a Hindu man. The accused, identified as Rahim Sheikh, allegedly introduced himself as “Rohan,” entered into a relationship with the victim, and later established physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage.

Based on the complaint, the Chowk Bazar police have registered a case against the accused under charges including rape, cheating, and provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

According to the complaint, Rahim allegedly introduced himself as “Rohan” and claimed he had deep respect for Hindu traditions. He reportedly maintained the false identity not only with the victim but also among colleagues and others in his office. The victim eventually entered into a relationship with him believing his claims.

To strengthen her trust, the accused allegedly participated in Hindu religious rituals, including Ganapati Puja and Satyanarayan worship. The complaint further alleges that he applied sindoor and made the victim wear a mangalsutra at their office, assuring her that they would formally marry later. Based on those promises, he allegedly had physical relations with her multiple times.

The complaint states that when the woman later pressed him to formalise the relationship through marriage, the accused allegedly refused. She then reportedly discovered that he had already married another woman.

The victim has further alleged that after she confronted him, Rahim physically assaulted her, used caste-based slurs, abused her, and humiliated her on the basis of her caste.

Following the complaint, police initiated an investigation and have begun examining all aspects of the allegations. Further inquiry into the case is underway. DeshGujarat
