May 19, 2026
Ahmedabad: An assistant electrical inspector posted at Udyog Bhavan in Gandhinagar was allegedly caught accepting a ₹50,000 bribe from a fire safety systems contractor during an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) operation.
Acting on a complaint filed by the contractor, the ACB on Monday laid a trap and apprehended Manish Rawal (53) while he was allegedly accepting the cash. Officials said the amount was part of a ₹5 lakh bribe that he had reportedly demanded in exchange for approving certificates and issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs).
According to the ACB, the complainant had informed the accused that he would pay ₹50,000 as the first instalment on Monday as part of the trap operation.
ACB officials said the complainant is involved in the installation of passive fire safety systems at various building projects. Project owners are required to submit passive fire system certificates to the office of the electrical inspector for verification and approval before obtaining NOCs.
The ACB team laid the trap near a bus stop close to Gha-2 Circle in Gandhinagar. Officials said the accused allegedly engaged in a “purposeful conversation” with the complainant before accepting the cash.
Following the transaction, ACB officers apprehended Rawal and recovered the entire amount from his possession. Further investigation into the case is underway. DeshGujarat
