Gujarat City Gas Distribution Companies Added 85K Domestic PNG Connections in 2.5 Months: Govt

Gandhinagar: City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies across Gujarat added around 85,000 domestic PNG connections and 1,100 commercial connections over the last 2.5 months, the Gujarat government said in a press release.

Energy Minister Rushikesh Patel said Gujarat Energy Limited (GEL) accelerated efforts to expand the use of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in domestic and commercial sectors during the recent crisis period arising from the conflict in the Middle East.

According to the government, between March 1 and May 17, 2026, GEL provided around 40,000 domestic PNG (D-PNG) connections, along with nearly 13,000 reconnections and 500 commercial connections. During the same period, all City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies across Gujarat collectively added around 85,000 domestic PNG connections and 1,100 commercial connections.

Patel said the company prioritised essential-category consumers, including hospitals, hostels, community kitchens, industrial canteens, schools and colleges. GEL provided around 110 connections to such customers, while all CGD companies in Gujarat together provided 225 connections in the category.

The minister said GEL’s response during the global crisis helped safeguard Gujarat’s industrial ecosystem through prompt action, strategic planning and coordinated efforts. DeshGujarat
