Gothan Railway Over Bridge in Surat to Remain Partially Shut for 3 Months
May 20, 2026
Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has announced a 92-day closure of one carriageway of the Gothan Railway Over Bridge (ROB) for repair and maintenance work, affecting vehicular movement from May 20 to August 20.
According to an order issued by Surat Municipal Commissioner M. Nagarajan (IAS), the stretch of the bridge from Velanja to Variyav will remain closed to all types of vehicular traffic during the repair period. The decision has been taken to facilitate guardrail repairs and ensure public safety.
To minimise disruption and regulate traffic flow, authorities have introduced temporary diversion arrangements. During the closure, the opposite carriageway, the Variyav-to-Velanja stretch, will be used for two-way traffic movement for all vehicles.
SMC said the traffic restrictions are aimed at maintaining the safety of citizens and ensuring smooth movement during the ongoing infrastructure work.
Officials further stated that if the repair work remains incomplete, the notification period may be extended. However, if work is completed before the scheduled deadline, the bridge will be reopened to traffic without any further notification.
The civic body has warned that action will be taken against anyone violating the traffic order, and individuals will be held responsible for any consequences arising from such violations.
Citizens have been urged to cooperate with authorities and follow the diversion routes during the repair period. DeshGujarat
