2,548 Kg Suspected Adulterated Mawa Seized in Sabarkantha Raid

Sabarkantha: In a crackdown on food adulteration, the Gujarat Food and Drugs Department’s flying squad raided Bholenath Dairy in Rojhad village of Talod taluka and seized 2,548 kg of suspected adulterated mawa worth around Rs 5.10 lakh. The dairy’s food licence has been suspended with immediate effect, officials said on Thursday.

As per a press release, the action was carried out under the directions of Minister of State for Health Praful Pansheriya as part of a statewide drive against food adulteration. The raid was conducted following specific intelligence inputs received by the Gandhinagar flying squad.

During the inspection, authorities allegedly found large-scale production of adulterated mawa and illegal manufacturing of sweet barfi without the required licence. Food safety officials collected samples of mawa and barfi and sent them for laboratory testing.

Officials also found extremely unhygienic conditions at the dairy. Around 550 kg of mawa prepared under unsanitary conditions was destroyed on the spot after being deemed unfit for consumption.

The department issued an improvement notice to the dairy under the Food Safety and Standards Act and said further legal action would be taken after the laboratory reports are received. Pansheriya warned that strict action would continue against those endangering public health through adulteration and illegal food activities. DeshGujarat
