Nine Vehicles Gutted in Fire After LPG Cylinder Blast on SG Highway in Ahmedabad
May 21, 2026
Ahmedabad: Nine two-wheelers were destroyed after a fire, reportedly triggered by an LPG cylinder explosion, tore through a tea kiosk near the Iskcon flyover on SG Road on Wednesday evening. No injuries or casualties were reported, officials said.
According to the fire department, the incident occurred at around 7:50 pm at a tea stall located on the service road opposite Wide Angle near Iskcon Circle. The kiosk, said to be operated by a differently abled person, was closed when the fire broke out.
Initial findings indicate that an LPG gas leak inside the stall may have caused the cylinder explosion, which quickly escalated into a major blaze. The fire rapidly spread to nearby vehicles parked at the municipal corporation’s pay-and-park facility adjacent to the kiosk.
Officials said four scooters and five motorcycles parked close to the stall were completely burnt before firefighters managed to control the situation.
The area was soon engulfed in thick smoke, prompting authorities to temporarily close the service road to ensure public safety and facilitate firefighting efforts.
Following alerts from local residents, two fire tenders were dispatched to the spot. Fire personnel carried out an extended operation to bring the blaze under control and secured the leaking gas connection to avoid the risk of another explosion. DeshGujarat
