PM Modi Gifts Rogan Painting, Kesar Mangoes from Gujarat to UAE President

Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his five-nation tour covering the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy, with Gujarat finding a distinct place through traditional gifts presented during the visit.

Among the gifts offered to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan were a Rogan painting featuring the Tree of Life motif and Gujarat’s famed GI-tagged Kesar mangoes, reflecting India’s effort to showcase regional heritage and artisanal excellence on the global stage.

The Rogan painting, a rare and intricate textile art form originating from Gujarat’s Kutch region, is known for its detailed craftsmanship and vibrant visual appeal. The Tree of Life design, one of the most recognized motifs in Rogan art, symbolizes interconnectedness, strength, renewal, and continuity, making it a significant representation of India’s artistic traditions.

Alongside the artwork, PM Modi presented Kesar mangoes, widely known as Gujarat’s “Queen of Mangoes.” Originating from the Junagadh region and carrying a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, Kesar mangoes are renowned for their saffron-coloured, fibreless pulp, rich aroma, and sweetness. The fruit also carries deep cultural significance in Gujarat, where Aamras traditions are associated with hospitality and festive cuisine.

The gift package also included Meghalaya’s celebrated GI-tagged pineapples, known for their naturally high sugar content and low acidity. Grown in the pristine hilly landscapes of the northeastern state, these pineapples are considered among India’s finest agricultural products and added another regional touch to India’s cultural diplomacy during the visit.
