Surat plans key road upgrades near Dumas Sea Face to ease traffic woes
May 21, 2026
Surat: In a major move to address persistent traffic congestion on the route leading to Dumas Sea Face, authorities have launched a road expansion plan covering more than 3 km around Airport Road and the Bhimpore–Langar stretch. The project is aimed at providing a long-term solution to increasing traffic pressure in one of Surat’s most popular leisure destinations.
Dumas Sea Face, a preferred getaway for Surat residents to spend time with family and enjoy the beach, has been facing severe traffic challenges for years. Heavy congestion, long vehicle queues, parking shortages, and road bottlenecks have regularly caused inconvenience to commuters and visitors. Although measures such as traffic police deployment, diversions, and on-site traffic management have been implemented, the administration has now initiated permanent infrastructure upgrades.
According to official details, a comprehensive plan has been prepared to expand and modernize three key roads leading to Dumas Sea Face.
As part of the project, an approximately 2.2-km road connecting the airport to Kuwada Junction will be developed as an “iconic road” at an estimated cost of Rs 14 crore. The stretch will include beautification features such as decorative lighting, greenery, and modern amenities. Work on this road has already commenced.
Additionally, a 1,100-metre stretch from Bhimpore Bay Phanta Gate to Langar will be widened to 60 metres. The widening process of the TP Road near the Forest Department’s Nandanvan project has also begun, with demolition work currently underway to clear and expand the corridor.
In another major component of the project, authorities are moving ahead with the construction of a new road approximately 1,800 metres long and 60 metres wide, at an estimated cost of Rs 42 crore, while also keeping future airport expansion plans in consideration.
Officials have set a target of completing the widening of all three major roads during the 2026–27 financial year. Authorities believe that once completed, the upgraded road network will significantly reduce traffic congestion and make travel to Dumas Sea Face smoother, faster, and more convenient for visitors.
