Bangkok Passenger Held at Ahmedabad Airport with 20.3 Kg Marijuana

Ahmedabad: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in the city has arrested an Indian national from Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur after allegedly recovering more than 20 kg of marijuana from his baggage, officials said on Friday.
The passenger had arrived in Ahmedabad from Bangkok on a Thai Airways flight during the intervening night of May 20 and 21.
According to officials, during the examination of the passenger’s baggage, AIU officers recovered 19 vacuum-sealed packets containing suspected marijuana (cannabis). The seized contraband weighed a total of 20.366 kg.
The narcotic substance was seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Officials said the passenger was subsequently arrested under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized contraband.
It is learnt that the value of the seized contraband is around Rs 20 crore, and the accused was set to transport the product from Ahmedabad to Delhi. DeshGujarat
