Unjha: The Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) seized 3,548 kg of fennel allegedly mixed with prohibited colouring agents and 140 kg of green colouring material worth around Rs 3.30 lakh during a raid at a factory in Unjha, Mehsana district. The action was carried out by the Flying Squad of Gandhinagar as part of the state government’s ongoing campaign against food adulteration.
Officials conducted a surprise inspection at Ganpati Cleaning Factory in Unjha and found that fennel was allegedly being adulterated with prohibited green colouring to give it an attractive appearance. During the preliminary investigation, authorities uncovered an alleged racket involving the use of banned colouring substances.
Investigators also found that the factory operators did not possess the mandatory food licence required for food production activities, indicating violations of food safety regulations.
Food safety officials seized the entire stock and collected samples of the fennel and colouring substances for laboratory testing. Authorities said further legal action would be initiated after the test reports are received.
Officials said the state government would continue strict monitoring and enforcement drives against food adulteration and illegal activities that pose risks to public health. DeshGujarat
