Gujarat Sees Slight Dip in Daytime Temperatures; Ahmedabad Mercury Drops to 41.7°C
May 22, 2026
Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad and several other cities across Gujarat witnessed a slight dip in temperatures on Thursday, bringing marginal relief from the recent intense heat spell, although conditions remained uncomfortable for people outdoors. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad recorded a maximum temperature of 41.7°C, which was 0.2°C below normal and 2°C lower than the 43.7°C recorded consistently over the previous three days.
Among other cities, Rajkot remained the hottest in the state on Thursday at 43.5°C, around 3°C above normal, followed by Surendranagar at 42°C, Ahmedabad and Amreli at 41.7°C each, and Gandhinagar at 41.2°C. Other major centres, including Deesa (41.1°C), Bhuj (40.6°C), Vadodara (40.4°C) and Kandla (40°C), also recorded high daytime temperatures. However, several cities experienced slight relief as temperatures remained only marginally above or close to normal levels.
The IMD has forecast that Ahmedabad’s maximum temperature is likely to hover around 42°C on Friday, indicating that hot weather conditions are expected to persist.
Across Gujarat, the weather department has stated that maximum temperatures are likely to remain above 40°C at isolated places over the next seven days, suggesting continued heat conditions in several parts of the state.
However, a slight weather shift is expected in parts of south and coastal Gujarat. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall on Friday in Navsari, Valsad, Dang, Amreli and Gir Somnath districts. On Saturday, rain activity may extend to Tapi and Bhavnagar, along with the previously listed districts. Dry weather conditions are likely to prevail afterward.
The latest weather data indicates that while temperatures have eased slightly in some cities, several parts of Gujarat continue to experience intense summer heat, with isolated rainfall expected to provide only limited relief in select districts. DeshGujarat
