ACB Gujarat Nabs Municipal Assistant Engineer for taking Rs 45,000 Bribe

Gandhinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday successfully trapped an Assistant Engineer of Prantij Municipality while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 45,000 based on a complaint received through the ACB toll-free helpline 1064.

The accused has been identified as Rajdeepsinh Shambhuji Chavda.

According to the ACB, the complainant had installed two water ATM machines in the Prantij Municipality area through a tender process. The accused officer allegedly demanded Rs. 45,000 as illegal gratification for approving the bill related to one of the machines.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a complaint. Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap on May 25, 2026.

During the operation, the accused allegedly held a conversation regarding the bribe and accepted Rs. 45,000 from the complainant. He was caught red-handed while accepting the amount on a public road opposite Karmayogi Bhavan in Gandhinagar.

The entire amount of Rs. 45,000 demanded and accepted as bribe was recovered by the ACB team during the trap operation.

The ACB stated that the accused had allegedly misused his position as a public servant and committed criminal misconduct under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
