IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms in These Parts of Gujarat Over Coming Weekend
May 26, 2026
Ahmedabad: After days of scorching heat, parts of Gujarat may finally see relief as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in several districts from May 30 onwards. Thunderstorm activity with gusty winds of up to 40–50 kmph is expected in parts of North Gujarat and later in Saurashtra over the coming week.
According to the IMD’s seven-day weather bulletin issued on Tuesday, isolated areas of North Gujarat, including Sabarkantha, Aravalli and Mahisagar, are likely to receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers on May 30. The weather activity is expected to expand on May 31 to include Panchmahal and Dahod.
By June 1, rainfall activity is likely to spread further, with isolated rain and thunderstorm forecasts for Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod and Mahisagar in North and Central Gujarat, along with the Saurashtra districts of Amreli and Bhavnagar.
The IMD has also issued yellow thunderstorm warnings for these districts during the three-day period. Moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 40–50 kmph are likely.
Meteorologists said a fresh western disturbance expected to affect northwest India from May 28, along with prevailing lower-level westerly winds, is influencing weather conditions across the region.
Before the change arrives, weather is expected to remain dry across Gujarat, Saurashtra-Kutch and the Union Territories of Diu, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli until May 29.
Meanwhile, Ahmedabad recorded the region’s highest maximum temperature at 43°C during the last 24 hours. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged over the next three days before gradually falling by 2–3°C thereafter. DeshGujarat
