Ahmedabad – Mumbai Bullet Train Project: NHSRCL Completes Viaduct Launching Over Kalupur Flyover
May 27, 2026
Ahmedabad: The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) on Wednesday announced that it has completed the launching of a viaduct over the Kalupur flyover, a Railway Over Bridge (ROB) above the Sabarmati–Mumbai main line of Western Railway in Ahmedabad, as part of the ongoing Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project.
The viaduct runs parallel to the existing railway line, and the launching work over the flyover was completed on May 25, 2026. The work involved the launching of a 45-metre-long bridge using the Span-by-Span (SBS) construction method.
Key Features:
Length of span over flyover: 45 metres
Height of viaduct (ground to rail level): 19.5 metres
Number of segments launched: 19
Total weight of span: 1,200 MT
The Kalupur flyover is one of Ahmedabad’s busiest two-lane flyovers and serves as a key connectivity route between Shahibaug, Asarwa, and Kalupur. Thousands of commuters use the route daily.
According to NHSRCL, the span erection activities were carefully planned and executed under a controlled night block schedule. Entry and exit points within the work zone were completely closed during night hours between 12 am and 6 am, while normal traffic movement beneath the flyover resumed during daytime hours.
Necessary night traffic block permissions were obtained from the Ahmedabad Traffic Department for the period between May 22 and May 25, 2026. Within this limited time frame, major activities, including auto-launching, segment transportation, span erection, dry matching, and gluing, were successfully completed over three nights.
To minimize inconvenience to commuters, authorities implemented several safety and traffic management measures, including barricading, traffic diversion signages, advance public notifications regarding route diversions, deployment of traffic marshals during day and night shifts, and adequate lighting arrangements for night-time operations.
According to officials, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor passes through 31 crossings in Ahmedabad district, including eight Indian Railways crossings, road flyovers, roads, road underpasses, 16 canal crossings, one bridge crossing over the Sabarmati River, and six steel bridges.
Of these, construction work on 23 crossings has already been completed. DeshGujarat
