Ahmedabad Police Bust Illegal Hookah Bar at Obsidian Cafe

Ahmedabad: Sola police conducted a late-night raid at The Obsidian Café near Chharodi and uncovered an illegally operated hookah bar functioning on the outskirts of the city.

Acting on specific inputs received during routine patrolling, police raided the café located opposite Aristo Club on the Sola–Chharodi road. During the operation, officials allegedly found that the establishment was serving hookahs containing nicotine-infused tobacco instead of permitted herbal flavours and was also storing banned flavoured tobacco products.

During the search operation, police seized 12 hookah units valued at Rs 9,600, four sealed flavour packets worth Rs 480, and eight plastic containers containing hookah substances. The total value of the seized material was estimated at Rs 10,080.

During questioning, café operator Mayank Gorviyala (25), a resident of Shastrinagar in Naranpura, reportedly informed police that he had been operating the café jointly with Rohit Mahawar (29), a resident of Shivalik Society in Sabarmati. The duo had allegedly rented and managed the establishment together.

Following the raid, Sola police registered a case under Sections 7 and 20(2) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, and initiated further investigation into the matter. DeshGujarat
