22-Year-Old Gujarati Student Killed in Knife Attack in Canada

Anand: A 22-year-old woman from Gujarat was fatally stabbed in Canada’s Niagara region, according to local police. The deceased has been identified as Vidhi Kalpeshbhai Meghani, originally from Borsad town in Anand district. She had been residing in Canada for the past four years, where she was pursuing her studies while also working part-time.

According to police, the incident took place on May 15, when Vidhi was attacked in broad daylight after leaving her residence in the Niagara area. She suffered fatal stab injuries during the assault. Local residents rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Authorities said Vidhi was studying law in Canada and was also working part-time to support herself financially. She had reportedly been preparing to apply for permanent residency (PR) in the country.

Initial investigations suggest that the accused may have targeted her during an attempted robbery. Canadian police have registered a murder case and launched an investigation into the incident. One suspect has reportedly been arrested in connection with the case, though officials have not yet revealed the exact motive behind the killing.

Vidhi’s family in Borsad remained unaware of the tragedy for several days. Relatives said they had been unable to contact her since May 16 and initially assumed she was occupied with work and studies. The family later received information about her death through officials and diplomatic channels.
