May 28, 2026
Ahmedabad: In a shocking case of honeytrap and robbery linked to an online dating application, Amreli police have arrested six persons accused of abducting a truck driver, stripping him naked, filming an obscene video, and robbing him at knifepoint.
According to police, the incident took place on the night of May 24, 2026. The victim, identified as Ajaybhai from Babra taluka, was travelling towards Amreli in his truck. While stopping near the Lathi bypass junction for tea and water, he was browsing Instagram on his mobile phone when he accidentally clicked on the gay dating application ‘Grindr’.
Police said Ajaybhai later received a message from an ID named ‘Jaan’, asking him to meet nearby. As he was returning towards Babra, two accused identified as Harkishan Khasiya and Armaan Bhimani allegedly stopped his truck by placing their Activa scooter across the road. The duo then allegedly forced Ajaybhai onto the scooter and took him to a culvert near the railway tracks, where four other accomplices were waiting.
Investigators said the accused assaulted the victim, stripped him naked at knifepoint, and recorded an obscene video using mobile phone flashlights. The gang allegedly threatened to make the video viral and robbed him of the cash in his wallet.
The accused then allegedly demanded more money. Under pressure, Ajaybhai contacted his employer, Ghoghabhai, on the false pretext of arranging treatment expenses for a relative and transferred Rs 5,000 to Harkishan’s account through Google Pay.
Police said one of the accused, identified as Tofiq alias Toffeek, allegedly held a knife to the victim’s throat and threatened him to arrange another Rs 45,000 by the next day. However, after hearing the sound of an approaching vehicle, the accused allegedly fled the spot, leaving behind the victim’s mobile phone and keys.
The victim later informed his employer about the incident on May 26, following which the matter reached Amreli police.
PSI Omdevsinh Jadeja registered a case and, within a few hours, police arrested all six accused. The accused have been remanded to two days’ police custody for further investigation.
Police have appealed to the public to remain cautious while using online dating and suspicious mobile applications.
