Western Railway to Run Gandhigram – Prayagraj Special Train; First Express Service from Station

Ahmedabad: In a move set to enhance rail connectivity from the western part of the city, Indian Railways has announced the first long-distance passenger express service to originate from Gandhigram railway station, located in the heart of Ahmedabad. Until now, the station primarily catered to two local train services towards the Bhavnagar section.

The newly announced Gandhigram–Prayagraj Bi-Weekly Special will operate on special fares and is believed to be the first express train service originating from a city station other than Ahmedabad Junction (Kalupur) or Sabarmati.

Train No. 09437 will depart Gandhigram at 5.20 pm every Sunday and Wednesday from May 31 to July 15, reaching Prayagraj at 8 pm the following day. In the return direction, Train No. 09438 will leave Prayagraj at 4.15 pm every Saturday and Tuesday from May 30 to July 14, arriving at Gandhigram at 3.30 pm the next day.

The train will halt at Chandkheda Road, Mehsana, Palanpur, Abu Road, Falna, Marwar Junction, Ajmer, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Idgah, Tundla, Etawah, Govindpuri, and Fatehpur. The rake composition will include Second Class, Sleeper Class, and AC 3-Tier coaches.

The introduction of the new service is expected to provide greater travel convenience for passengers from western Ahmedabad. Bookings for Train No. 09437 will open on May 30, 2026. DeshGujarat
