Stray Dog Menace: 7-Year-Old Dies After Attack in Amreli Village
June 03, 2026
Amreli: A seven-year-old boy was killed after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Khan Khijadiya village of Amreli district, prompting authorities to launch a drive to capture the animals and prevent further attacks.
The incident occurred on June 1 when stray dogs attacked seven-year-old Romit, son of farm labourer Magan Baraiya, in an agricultural field owned by Praful Borad. The attack was so severe that the child died on the spot, leaving his family devastated.
According to Vadiya Mamlatdar Y.N. Barad, two stray dogs have been captured following the incident, while efforts are underway to catch two more suspected animals involved in the attacks.
The tragedy has intensified concerns over the growing stray dog menace in the village. Residents claim that over the past month, two children have lost their lives in separate dog attacks, while two other minors have sustained injuries.
Village sarpanch Ashok Dafda said the problem has persisted for nearly a month and has particularly affected the children of farm labourers. To curb the threat, the village panchayat has engaged a private agency to capture and relocate stray dogs.
“Two children have been mauled to death, while two others were injured in stray dog attacks during the past month,” Dafda said. DeshGujarat
