ACB Gujarat Books Retired SMC Engineer in Disproportionate Assets Case
June 07, 2026
Surat: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a disproportionate assets (DA) case against a retired engineer of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) for allegedly possessing assets worth Rs 68.98 lakh in excess of his known sources of income following an investigation into his service period spanning nearly a decade.
The ACB’s Surat unit booked Rasik Patel, who served as an assistant engineer with the civic body between January 2011 and March 2020. According to officials, Patel allegedly amassed wealth through unlawful means during his tenure, amounting to criminal misconduct under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The complaint was filed by ACB Police Inspector K.J. Dhaduk, while further investigation has been entrusted to Police Inspector S.D. Dhobi.
ACB officials said they received a complaint against Patel in 2020 alleging that he had accumulated assets through illegal practices while serving in the SMC. During the probe, investigators found that Patel owned two houses — one in Adajan, Surat, and another in his native Dharampur. They also detected deposits of around Rs 40 lakh in his bank accounts.
In addition, Patel was found to own a luxury car valued at approximately Rs 19 lakh, three two-wheelers, and multiple insurance policy investments. An analysis of his income and expenditure during the 10-year verification period revealed that his assets exceeded his known income by Rs 68.98 lakh, or 70.13 per cent, officials said.
Patel retired from the SMC on August 31, 2025. The ACB has continued its investigation to determine the complete extent of his assets and financial dealings. DeshGujarat
