Stray Dog Menace: 7-Year-Old Boy Attacked in Surat

Surat: A seven-year-old boy was injured after being attacked by a stray dog in the Althan area of Surat on Sunday morning, sparking fresh concerns over the growing stray dog menace in the city. The child was rushed to the New Civil Hospital, where he received first aid and anti-rabies treatment.
The incident occurred at around 8 am when Jashpal Rajput, a Class 2 student, was returning home after purchasing bananas from a nearby vegetable vendor. According to family members, a stray dog suddenly attacked the boy and bit him on his left leg before he could react.
Hearing his screams, local residents and family members rushed to the spot and rescued him. He was subsequently taken to the New Civil Hospital for medical treatment.
Jashpal’s father, Mahendrasinh Rajput, a native of Jalore in Rajasthan who currently resides in Thakordeep Society near Vasant Vihar Society in Althan, runs a grocery store in the area.
The incident has triggered anger among local residents, who have raised concerns over the increasing number of stray dogs and questioned the effectiveness of the Surat Municipal Corporation’s measures to control the stray animal population.
