Surat: A 26-year-old coaching class teacher was allegedly lured through a dating app and robbed of ₹45,000 by four persons in Surat’s Varachha area. Police have arrested two accused, including a 16-year-old minor, while two others remain absconding.
According to police, the victim connected with a user on the dating app Grindr and agreed to meet him at Podar Arcade. The accused allegedly persuaded him to move to a quieter location and took him to an under-construction building in Punagam.
Police said the victim was taken to the third floor of the building, where three other accomplices joined the minor. The group allegedly assaulted and threatened him, warning that details of the dating app meeting would be made public if he did not hand over money.
The accused allegedly seized the victim’s mobile phone and transferred ₹15,000 to multiple bank accounts. They also withdrew ₹30,000 through his Google Pay account, taking the total amount stolen to ₹45,000.
After the incident, the accused allegedly threatened the victim with dire consequences if he approached the police before fleeing the spot.
Based on the victim’s complaint, Varachha police registered an FIR on Sunday and arrested the minor accused and Vijay Makwana (20), both students. A search is underway for the remaining two accused. DeshGujarat
