Oman-Gujarat Deep-Sea Gas Pipeline On Cards: Ruling BJP Shares Details

New Delhi: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has highlighted India’s efforts to strengthen long-term energy security, sharing a video and details on social media platform X about the proposed Oman-Gujarat Deep-Sea Gas Pipeline project.

Describing the initiative as a “bold strike for energy independence,” the ruling party said the project would create a direct energy corridor between Oman and Gujarat through a nearly 2,000-kilometre underwater pipeline.

According to the BJP, which is in power since 2014 nationally, the pipeline is planned to run at depths exceeding 3,000 metres beneath the Arabian Sea, enabling natural gas supplies to reach India directly while bypassing major maritime chokepoints and risks associated with tanker transportation.

In its post, the party said that while global attention remains focused on developments around the Strait of Hormuz, India is pursuing a long-term solution aimed at ensuring reliable and uninterrupted access to natural gas for households, industries, fertiliser plants and economic growth.

The BJP said the project represents a strategic investment in energy infrastructure and is intended to reduce vulnerabilities arising from geopolitical uncertainties in international energy markets.

Sharing the details on X, the party stated that the pipeline would strengthen India’s energy resilience and support the country’s growing demand for cleaner fuel sources. The post described the initiative as “energy security with steel and vision” and asserted that India is securing its energy future through strategic infrastructure development.

The proposed Oman-Gujarat Deep-Sea Gas Pipeline has been discussed as a potential alternative route for natural gas imports, although the project remains in the planning and feasibility assessment stage. If implemented, it would rank among the world’s deepest and longest offshore gas pipeline systems.

The BJP’s remarks come amid continued efforts by India to diversify energy sources, expand infrastructure and enhance energy security as the country’s economy and energy requirements continue to grow.
