Residents Protest Against Pre-Primary School in Surat Housing Society; SMC Issues Notice

The controversy over a pre-primary school operating in Marutidham Society in Mota Varachha has escalated. Residents of the society staged a protest, alleging that commercial activities were being carried out in a residential area. A large number of women took to the streets and raised slogans against the school, demanding immediate action.

According to local residents, a pre-primary school has been started in a residential building within the society, affecting the area’s peace, traffic movement and security. Written representations had earlier been submitted to the police and the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) regarding the issue. During the protest, residents displayed copies of their complaints and expressed dissatisfaction with the administration and local representatives. As tensions escalated, police personnel were deployed at the spot. Following the complaints, the Surat Municipal Corporation conducted a site inspection.

During the inspection, officials found that the ground floor of a property located in Draft TP Scheme No. 18 (Mota Varachha), Block Nos. 119/1 and 120/2, Final Plot Nos. 67 and 70, and Sub-Plot No. 49, was being used for commercial purposes in violation of the approved residential plan.

Based on the findings, the Municipal Corporation issued a notice to the property owner, directing them to immediately stop the commercial use of the premises and restrict its use to residential purposes only. The notice also warned that legal action would be initiated if the commercial activity continues despite the corporation’s order. DeshGujarat
