Daytime Temperatures Dip Across Gujarat, but Monsoon Wait Likely to Continue
June 15, 2026
Ahmedabad: The city witnessed a slight dip in daytime temperature on Sunday, with the mercury settling at 40.6°C compared to 41.3°C on Saturday. The maximum temperature remained 0.9°C above normal, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 29°C, about 1 degree above normal. Relative humidity stood at 68% at 8:30 am and dropped to 33% by 5:30 pm.
Meanwhile, Bhavnagar recorded the highest daytime temperature in the state at 41.4°C, which was 3.5 degrees above normal, followed by Ahmedabad at 40.6°C and Rajkot at 39.7°C. State capital Gandhinagar was also among the top five hottest places at 39°C, along with Surendranagar at 38.8°C.
Additionally, even though Amdavadis saw signs suggesting the possible arrival of the south-west monsoon, which was scheduled to reach Gujarat around this time, with partly cloudy skies and breezy conditions last night, the Indian Meteorological Department’s forecast suggests that residents may have to wait a little longer.
The department indicated that the chances of the south-west monsoon reaching Gujarat by June 15 are very low, as its northern limit was reported around Harnai and Solapur in Maharashtra on Sunday. As a result, there is unlikely to be any significant relief from the prevailing heat over the coming days.
As per the IMD, the daytime mercury is likely to hover around 41°C on Monday. However, some areas of south Gujarat may receive light to moderate rainfall later this week. Other cities in the state that recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday included Bhavnagar at 41.4°C and VV Nagar at 40.1°C. DeshGujarat
