Gujarat Congress Protests High Fees in Pvt Universities Up to ₹24 Lakh for UG Courses; Releases Figures

Ahmedabad: Alleging that undergraduate education has become increasingly expensive in Gujarat, the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Saturday claimed that several private universities in the state are charging lakhs of rupees in fees for four-year degree programmes such as B.A., B.Com., B.Sc. and B.B.A., making them costlier than many professional and technical courses.
Addressing a press conference, GPCC spokesperson Dr. Parthivrajsinh Kathwadia said that while four-year B.A. and B.Sc. courses at Gujarat University cost around ₹11,400 to ₹1,00,000 (self-financed), fees at some private universities run into several lakhs. According to figures cited by the Congress, Ahmedabad University charges around ₹24 lakh for four-year undergraduate programmes, including B.A., B.Com., B.Sc. and B.B.A.
The Congress further claimed that Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) in Gandhinagar charges up to ₹12.40 lakh for B.A., B.Com. and B.B.A. courses, while Auro University in Surat charges ₹13.08 lakh for B.Com. and B.B.A. programmes. At Karnavati University, the fee for a B.B.A. course is around ₹12 lakh, while the total cost of a B.B.A. programme at Nirma University is around ₹15.56 lakh.
