Two Ahmedabad BRTS Buses Collide Head-On, 4 Injured

Ahmedabad: A head-on collision between two BRTS buses on a dedicated corridor near Memnagar in Ahmedabad left at least two people injured on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 12:45 pm on the BRTS track leading to Walinath Chowk behind Memnagar station when buses numbered JBM 046 and E 015 collided head-on.

According to eyewitnesses, the buses crashed into each other with considerable force, drawing local residents and passersby to the spot. The impact shattered the front portions and windshields of both vehicles, triggering panic among passengers.

Two passengers sustained serious injuries in the accident, while the drivers of both buses suffered minor injuries after becoming trapped inside their respective cabins. Locals reportedly broke the bus windows to rescue the injured.

Following the incident, 108 ambulance services and police personnel rushed to the spot. The injured, including the driver of one of the buses, were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL), which operates the BRTS network, stated that inquiries revealed that both buses belonged to an older fleet and were not equipped with dashcams.

As per AJL, CCTV footage from the corridor is being examined to determine the exact cause of the accident. AJL has initiated action against the operators of both buses, and the driver found responsible has been removed from duty with immediate effect.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into how the two buses came face-to-face on the one-way corridor despite the swing gate being open. Authorities have also indicated that dashcams will be made mandatory in all new buses to help prevent similar incidents in the future. DeshGujarat
