Bharuch Court Summons AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava in Police Defamation Case

Bharuch: A fresh legal challenge has emerged for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava, days after he and nine others were sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment by a Rajpipla court in a case involving an alleged attack on Forest Department employees.

A Bharuch court has now issued a fresh notice to Vasava in a separate case accusing him of tarnishing the image of the Gujarat Police through remarks made at a public event in 2024.

The Narmada Additional Sessions Court had recently convicted Vasava, his wife, and eight others in connection with a violent attack on forest officials and criminal intimidation, sentencing them to seven years in prison. The verdict has sparked questions over Vasava’s political future.

Meanwhile, the Bharuch court has directed Vasava to appear on July 29 in the defamation-related case. Earlier, he had been issued a notice to appear before the court on June 23. However, as the notice could not be served, District Public Prosecutor Paresh Pandya moved the court seeking fresh process.

Accepting the request, the court issued a fresh notice directing Vasava to remain present on July 29.

The case stems from statements allegedly made by Vasava against the Gujarat Police during a public address in 2024. The complainants have alleged that his remarks damaged the reputation of the police force. The complaint was filed in the Bharuch court based on a report submitted by the then Superintendent of Police. DeshGujarat
