Bharuch Court Issues Notice to AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava over ‘Defamatory’ Remarks Against Police
May 06, 2026
Bharuch: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Dediapada, Chaitar Vasava, has landed in fresh legal trouble after a Bharuch court issued a notice directing him to appear on June 23, 2026, in connection with an alleged defamatory statement against the Gujarat Police.
The case pertains to a controversial statement allegedly made by Vasava in July 2024 at the INDI Alliance office in Ankleshwar, where he claimed that the Gujarat Police was involved in the sale of liquor. The remarks were considered defamatory towards the police force.
Based on a report submitted by then Bharuch Superintendent of Police Mayur Chavda on December 17, 2024, District Chief Public Prosecutor Paresh Pandya filed a complaint before the court.
After hearing arguments in the matter on April 18, 2026, Chief Judicial Magistrate Bhavin N. Joshi passed an order on May 4, 2026, issuing a notice to Vasava. The court observed that, under Section 223(1) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the accused must be given an opportunity to be heard before further proceedings.
Accordingly, the MLA has been directed to remain present before the court on June 23.
The development comes amid other legal challenges faced by Vasava. Two separate complaints filed by Bharuch police personnel, Pehlad Parmar and Pravin Parmar, have further added to his troubles. DeshGujarat
