ACB Gujarat traps cop red-handed taking ₹5 lakh bribe; another absconds

Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today carried out a trap operation against a PSI and a head constable posted at Bopal Police Station in Ahmedabad Rural in a bribery case involving ₹5 lakh. During the trap, the head constable was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹5 lakh, while the PSI was not found at the spot.

According to the ACB, PSI Pritalben Jashubhai Chaudhary was investigating an application filed against the complainant at Bopal Police Station. During the investigation, PSI Pritalben Chaudhary and Assistant Head Constable Dilipkumar Mafatbhai Bhoi of the Shilaj Beat initially demanded a bribe of ₹10 lakh in exchange for not registering a case against the complainant.

After negotiations with the complainant, the two accused agreed to reduce the bribe amount to ₹5 lakh. As the complainant did not want to pay the bribe, he approached the Kheda ACB Police Station in Nadiad and lodged a complaint.

Based on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap on Friday, June 26, 2026, in the presence of two independent witnesses. During the trap, Assistant Head Constable Dilipkumar Bhoi accepted a bribe of ₹5 lakh from the complainant. He then called PSI Pritalben Chaudhary on his mobile phone and informed her, over speakerphone, that the bribe amount had been received.

The ACB team caught Dilipkumar Bhoi on the spot and recovered the ₹5 lakh bribe amount from him. However, PSI Pritalben Chaudhary was not present at the spot during the trap and could not be located. Both the accused have been booked for criminal misconduct and abuse of their positions as public servants. DeshGujarat
