Ahmedabad: A 40-year-old man arriving from Bangkok was arrested at Ahmedabad airport after customs officials allegedly recovered 4.2 kg of hydroponic marijuana (ganja) from his checked-in baggage on Wednesday.
According to the Customs Department, officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), acting on passenger profiling, intercepted the traveller after he landed from Bangkok. During the inspection of his trolley bag, officials found 22 transparent polythene packets concealed inside food packages.
The passenger, a resident of Ulhasnagar in Maharashtra, told investigators that it was his first visit to Ahmedabad airport.
Officials said a field test confirmed the seized substance to be hydroponic marijuana. The contraband was subsequently seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The seizure marks the second haul of hydroponic weed at the airport in the past four days.
