Ahmedabad Rural Police, Honda to Set Up Centre of Excellence for Road Safety in Viramgam
July 11, 2026
Ahmedabad: A Centre of Excellence for Road Safety and Traffic Management will be established at Viramgam to enhance road safety and promote a safer transportation ecosystem. The foundation stone for the facility, a joint initiative of the Ahmedabad Rural Police and Honda Motor Company, was laid on Friday.
Honda will invest ₹3 crore in the project under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The proposed centre will serve as a dedicated hub for road safety research, technology adoption, capacity building, data-driven traffic enforcement, public awareness, and coordination among various agencies.
According to officials, the centre will collect and analyse accident and traffic data to identify accident-prone locations, monitor risk trends, and recommend evidence-based improvements in engineering, enforcement, and policy.
It will also conduct road safety awareness campaigns and pilot advanced traffic management technologies, including AI-based surveillance, intelligent traffic systems, and other innovative safety solutions. The project will utilise the police department’s Trinetra CCTV network to study traffic patterns, detect violations, identify accident hotspots, and explore technologies such as facial recognition.
The centre is also expected to strengthen emergency response by improving coordination among ambulance, hospital, and fire services, developing Golden Hour standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training police personnel and volunteers. DeshGujarat
