Ahmedabad Police Nab Woman for Selling MD Drugs Hidden in Chocolate Wrappers

Ahmedabad: The Local Crime Branch (LCB), Zone-5, Ahmedabad City, along with Gomtipur Police, has arrested a woman and seized 127.95 grams of Mephedrone (MD) drugs, 132.42 grams of ganja, and Rs. 1.12 lakh in cash, with the total seizure valued at Rs. 5.03 lakh.

Acting on a specific tip-off, the LCB Zone-5 team conducted a raid in the Gomtipur area following the prescribed procedures under the NDPS Act. During the raid, officers recovered 127.95 grams of Mephedrone worth Rs. 3.83 lakh, 132.42 grams of ganja worth Rs. 6,621, and Rs. 1.12 lakh in cash believed to be linked to the illegal drug trade.

Police said the accused, Seemaben, wife of Suraj alias Kilo Ramkishan Diwakar (28), a resident of Vimal Mill Chali in Gomtipur, had adopted a new modus operandi to avoid detection by concealing the MD drug inside chocolate wrappers, making it appear like ordinary confectionery during routine checks. Investigators believe the method was intended to mislead law enforcement agencies and facilitate the illegal sale and transport of narcotics.

The woman’s husband, Suraj alias Kilo Ramkishan Diwakar, has been named as a co-accused and is currently absconding. Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest him, along with any other persons connected to the racket.

An FIR has been registered at Gomtipur Police Station under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(A), 22(c), and 29.

Police records show that the arrested woman had previously been booked in an NDPS case, while the absconding accused has a long criminal history involving prohibition, gambling, assault, rioting, and other offences. Further investigation is underway to identify the source of the drugs and the wider supply network. DeshGujarat
