DRI busts illegal MD drug manufacturing unit in Ankleshwar; narcotics worth ₹40 lakh seized

Ankleshwar: A joint team of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) from Delhi and Surat busted an illegal drug manufacturing unit operating from a rented house in the Gadkhol area of Ankleshwar and seized suspected Mephedrone (MD) worth around ₹40 lakh.

During the raid, officials recovered the suspected MD drug, raw materials used in its production, and equipment allegedly used to manufacture the narcotic. Preliminary investigation revealed that a room in the rented house had been converted into a makeshift laboratory where the chemical process for manufacturing the drug was being carried out. The DRI team seized the incriminating material and sealed the premises.

Three suspects allegedly linked to the operation have been detained for questioning. Their exact role in the racket is being investigated.

Based on the interrogation of the detained suspects, investigators are now trying to trace others involved in the manufacturing and supply chain of the drug. Officials are probing the possibility of a wider inter-state or even international network behind the operation. Further investigation is underway, and more arrests or seizures are likely as the probe progresses.

Ankleshwar has witnessed similar cases in the past, with illegal drug manufacturing units previously being busted under the guise of pharmaceutical production. DeshGujarat
