Surat DEO empowers schools in waterlogged areas to declare holidays

Surat: In view of the heavy rainfall across the district and waterlogging in several areas, the Surat District Education Officer (DEO) has directed all primary, secondary and higher secondary schools, as well as Anganwadi centres, to give top priority to students’ safety.

In a circular issued on Wednesday, the DEO said that schools located in municipal, nagarpalika and rural areas affected by heavy rain and waterlogging should suspend classes in the morning shift. Afternoon shift schools in such areas have also been advised to remain closed.

The circular further states that school authorities should assess the local situation and, wherever necessary, take an independent decision to declare a holiday to ensure the safety of students. DeshGujarat
