Where Did It Rain in Gujarat? Here’s 24-Hour Rainfall Data

Ahmedabad: Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds continued to lash Gujarat over the last 24 hours, disrupting normal life in several districts. According to the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), the rainfall data recorded between 6 am on July 23 and 6 am on July 24 shows that Mehmedabad taluka in Kheda district received the highest rainfall in the state at 19.96 inches (507 mm).

The state’s top 10 rain-hit talukas were Mehmedabad (19.96 inches), Dholka (18.62 inches), Chikhli (17.76 inches), Khergam (17.09 inches), Umargam (17.09 inches), Umarpada (17.05 inches), Matar (16.22 inches), Kheda (14.72 inches), Viramgam (14.61 inches), and Vansda (14.57 inches). Other areas that recorded exceptionally heavy rainfall included Waghai in Dang with 14.45 inches and Gandevi in Navsari with 13.07 inches.

The rainfall data also highlights the widespread nature of the downpour across Gujarat. A total of 27 talukas received more than 10 inches of rain during the last 24 hours, while 34 talukas recorded between 5 and 10 inches. Overall, 192 talukas received more than 1 inch of rainfall, indicating widespread monsoon activity across the state.

Ahmedabad district witnessed extremely heavy rainfall in several talukas, with Dholka, Viramgam, Mandal, Ahmedabad City, Bavla, and Daskroi each recording more than 10 inches of rain. The intense downpour led to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in several urban and rural areas. In neighbouring Kheda district, Mehmedabad, Matar, Kheda, Nadiad, and Vaso also received exceptionally heavy rainfall.

South Gujarat continued to bear the brunt of the monsoon, with heavy rain reported across Navsari, Valsad, Surat, Dang, and Tapi districts. In Navsari, Chikhli, Khergam, Vansda, and Gandevi recorded heavy rainfall, while Umargam, Pardi, Nana Pondha, and Valsad in Valsad district also received significant rain. In Surat district, Umarpada and surrounding areas witnessed intense showers.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more heavy rainfall across parts of Gujarat over the coming days. With continuous rain likely to trigger waterlogging in low-lying areas, raise river levels, and create localised flood-like situations, authorities have urged people to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
