Machhu-2 Dam 100% Full; 4 Gates Opened, High Alert for Morbi City and 32 Villages

Morbi: Authorities have issued a high alert in Morbi district after the Machhu-2 Dam reached 100% of its storage capacity. To regulate the reservoir level, four gates of the dam have been opened by six feet at 12 noon on Saturday, releasing around 14,048 cusecs of water into the Machhu River.

According to the administration, the dam is currently receiving an inflow of 14,638 cusecs. The controlled release has been planned to maintain the reservoir level and prevent any untoward situation due to rising water levels downstream.

As a precautionary measure, the district administration has urged residents of Morbi city and 32 nearby villages to remain on high alert. People living along the banks of the Machhu River have been advised to stay away from the riverbed and shift to safer locations if required.

The villages placed on alert in Morbi taluka include Jodhpar, Lilapar, Bhadiyad, Timbdi, Dharampur, Ravapar, Amreli, Vanaliya, Gor Khijadiya, Mansar, Nava Sadulka, Juna Sadulka, Ravapar (River), Gungan, Naranka, Bahadurgarh, Nava Nagdavas, Juna Nagdavas, Sokhada, Amarnagar, Morbi city, and Vajepar. In Maliya (Miyana) taluka, Veeravadarka, Derala, Navagam, Meghpar, Haripar, Mahendragarh, Fatepar, Songarh, Maliya (Miyana), and Rasangpar have also been placed on high alert.

Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and appealed to residents to follow the instructions issued by the local administration and disaster management authorities.
