Glasgow hands Commonwealth Games baton to India for Ahmedabad 2030

Glasgow:  Following 11 action-packed days of elite sports, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games officially drew to a close on Sunday in a spectacular handover ceremony, passing the torch—quite literally—to India for the landmark Centenary edition.

The 2030 Games are set to take place in Ahmedabad. In a ceremonial changing of the guard, Scottish officials formally presented the CWG flag and baton to an Indian delegation led by Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha, and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi.

While the closing ceremony initially highlighted the rich heritage of Scotland, the stage quickly erupted into a celebration of India’s vibrant traditions and cultural depth. Highlights of the spectacle included an electrifying Indo-Scottish ‘jugalbandi,’ where dancers and musicians from both nations fused their art forms in a seamless performance.

India closes out its 2026 Glasgow campaign on a strong note, finishing fourth on the medal leaderboard with a total tally of 39 medals—comprising 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze.

By taking on the 2030 Games in Ahmedabad, India will become only the second country after Australia to host the Commonwealth Games multiple times, building on the legacy of the 2010 Delhi Games.
