Ahmedabad Schools Allowed to Hold Sunday Classes to Offset Rain Holiday Disruptions

Ahmedabad: Following heavy rainfall and multiple school closures in recent weeks, the Ahmedabad district education officer has permitted government, grant-in-aid, and private schools across all education boards to hold classes on Sundays to make up for lost teaching days.

The directive has been issued to school managements and principals in both the Ahmedabad East and West zones. It says that the rain-related holidays disrupted the academic calendar, and schools may, if required, conduct additional classes to help complete the syllabus and minimise learning gaps.

Schools can choose to remain open on Sundays this month, but the decision is entirely voluntary. If they decide to hold classes, they must inform students and parents in advance, ensure teachers are available, and use the sessions for revision, doubt-solving, assessments, or other academic activities.

The circular also emphasises that student safety should remain the highest priority. Schools have been asked to consider local weather conditions and the readiness of their infrastructure before deciding to conduct Sunday classes. DeshGujarat
