IMD Issues Thunderstorm Warning for These Parts of Gujarat on Aug 8-9

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall across Gujarat over the next seven days, till August 13, while issuing a thunderstorm warning for parts of the state over the coming weekend.

According to the IMD’s latest bulletin, isolated places in North Gujarat are likely to witness light thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, surface winds of 30–40 kmph, and light to moderate rainfall on August 8 and 9. The districts covered under the warning include Banaskantha, Vav-Tharad, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar.

The weather office has also forecast light to moderate rain at isolated places across all districts of Gujarat until August 13. As of now, the IMD has not issued any yellow, orange, or red alert for heavy rainfall in the state during the forecast period.

The IMD said the monsoon trough at mean sea level continues to extend from Ganganagar through Delhi, the centre of a low-pressure area over southwest Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas, Ranchi and Digha, before stretching southeastwards into the east-central Bay of Bengal.

An upper air cyclonic circulation over south Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, also persists. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the coastal areas of Gangetic West Bengal and the adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours. It is expected to move west-northwestwards along the monsoon trough across Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha, Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh over the subsequent 48 hours.

The IMD further said a Western Disturbance, in the form of a trough in the middle and upper tropospheric westerlies, continues to persist over northwestern parts of the country.
