“Why Didn’t You Go to Jharkhand?” Surat BJP MP Questions Priyanka Gandhi Outside Parliament

New Delhi: A heated exchange took place between Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and BJP MP from Surat Mukesh Dalal at Makar Dwar outside Parliament on Tuesday, with the ongoing student protest in Jharkhand at the centre of the confrontation.

The BJP has been protesting in Delhi over the issue, while the Congress has continued to target the ruling party over the matter. During the protest outside Parliament, Dalal was heard raising slogans of “Rahul Gandhi, sharam karo”.

As Priyanka Gandhi Vadra passed by, Dalal questioned her about why she had not travelled to Jharkhand to meet students protesting alleged irregularities in JPPC-JSSC examinations.

“Why didn’t you go to Jharkhand?” Dalal asked.

Speaking to reporters about the exchange, Dalal said, “Priyanka ji told me Rahul Gandhi is working for the students protesting in Jharkhand. But I asked why Rahul Gandhi is not visiting Jharkhand. She did not reply.”

Priyanka Gandhi replied that Rahul Gandhi had already met the protesting students.

Speaking to reporters later, Priyanka Gandhi said she had never before seen MPs from the ruling party staging a protest. She said the Opposition had at least succeeded in forcing the government to take up the issue and called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to make a statement.

Notably, the protests in Ranchi were triggered by alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
