Ahmedabad Adds Over 29,000 PNG Connections Since April
August 13, 2026
Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad city has recorded 29,041 new Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections in the last four and a half months, with the demand for PNG rising amid concerns over LPG availability and the continued expansion of the city’s PNG network.
A total of 29,041 new customers have taken PNG connections between April and August so far. The highest number of new connections was recorded in April, when 11,047 customers joined the network. This was followed by 6,455 connections in May, 5,270 in June, 4,724 in July and 1,545 new connections so far in August.
The increase comes at a time when customers have been facing concerns over LPG availability following the Iran war. With the PNG network expanding across Ahmedabad, more households are opting for piped gas as an alternative.
The Central Government has also directed that LPG connections should not be provided in areas where PNG facilities are already available. The impact of this policy, along with the expansion of the PNG network, is now being seen in the rising number of new connections.
To further accelerate the shift to PNG, notices were issued to the chairpersons of residential societies in areas where the PNG network is available. Letters were sent to around 12,500 housing societies in Ahmedabad, seeking their approval and necessary action.
The deadline for societies to respond to the notices was June 22. The action is being taken in accordance with the Central Government’s Gazette notification dated March 24, 2026. DeshGujarat
